Moisture-Proofing
in a Tube! Cal-Flor Accessory Systems, a long time supplier of accessory products and services for the flooring industry is introducing Click Seal® – moisture-proofing in a tube – for laminate and engineered plank floors. Click Seal® is Cal-Flor’s newest product in its line of edge sealants for click-style flooring. It is installer-applied on site to eliminate core swelling caused by spills and excessive maintenance. Designed for use in bathrooms, kitchens, entries and other areas exposed to frequent moisture, Click Seal is a blend of wax and oil formulated to penetrate the core, coat the surface and seal the joint. This 3-fold block against moisture results in a virtually waterproof floor. “Click Seal® was created with our partners in Australia to protect the cores of click flooring when glue became a thing of the past.” says Todd Hall, director of product development for Cal-Flor, “Unlike glue, Click Seal seals the joint while allowing each plank to expand and contract individually. Experience shows that locking click floors into place with glue runs counter to the engineering of the click-system itself.” Click Seal’s low viscosity also works with profiles that are too tightly engineered to allow glue. Click Seal® gel is easily applied onto the tongue and then the planks are locked together. Excess gel squeezes up, and when dried (5 minutes), peels off with the touch of a finger. Unlike glue, planks sealed with Click Seal can be removed and reassembled anytime. “Our tests with melamine-impregnated cores have shown that all planks have some degree of swelling when exposed to moisture. 3-7% swelling is common and enough to cause problems,” adds Hall “The goal of our work in the last year is to come up with effective and innovative ways to address this problem.” Cal-Flor introduced a similar product for factory-application at Surfaces earlier this year. “We felt that we were addressing sealing at the manufacturing level, but that left installers in the cold. Click Seal puts the tool and choice into their hand, giving them the opportunity to offer the consumer greater protection. It’s a great value add-on.” Under development is a liquid version, designed
to give installers a choice. Click Seal® Liquid is brushed on
all four sides of a plank and has an indefinite working time. It
can even be applied to existing floors with joints that have opened
up over time. |
